Book Fair and Read-A-Thon

“Wild About Reading”

Book Fair and Read-A-Thon is a collaboration between the school and the school’s Home and School Association (HSA) to both promote literacy, and to raise funds to support our school Library, learning resources, and HSA programs and events that benefit St. Cecilia Catholic School.

We are excited to announce our 2024 Book Fair and Read-A-Thon – Friday, February 16th – Friday, February 23rd!

  • Friday, February 16th – “Cozy Up With A Good Book / Pajama Day” (must wear athletic shoes with pajamas) or regular Friday Spirit Day attire
  • Monday, February 19th – Inservice Day – No school
  • Tuesday, February 20th – “Wild About Reading” – wear a shirt or pants with your favorite animal or animal print (an example would be a t-shirt with an animal athletic mascot on it). This is not an animal costume day.
  • Wednesday, February 21st – “Read To A Friend” – Bring a stuffed animal to school. Mass attire is required for all students.
  • Thursday, February 22nd – “Book Character Day” – dress as your favorite book character.
  • Friday, February 23rd – “Go Texan Day” – since Friday is our annual Go Texan Day, that will be the theme for this day. As a reminder regarding our standard rules for Go Texan Day – all students are allowed to wear their rodeo gear to school. They may wear jeans, boots, western-styled shirts, and belts. Note: Students must wear tennis shoes for PE. Of course, our young caballeros should leave their pistolas, lariats, and livestock at home.

Read-A-Thon

  • Students can read anything they want, including graphic novels, science books, or history books. Students can read during library time, before or after school activities, study hall, and at home.
  • Students request pledges (either a donation per minute read or a fixed donation) from family and friends.
  • Students will use the Pledge Form/Reading Log to record the pledges.
  • Students track minutes they read daily.
  • The top readers will earn prizes.
  • Please use this link to send your students’ donations and/or upload their reading logs.
  • More questions? Please read Read-a-thon’s FAQ document or the Read-A-Thon Prize document.

Book Fair Update and Payment Options

This year’s Book Fair is going to look a little different from previous years. Our Book Fair this Spring is going to be with Literati which is associated with the Follett Publishing Company. This switch was made by a number of schools in the Archdiocese and all over the country. Literati provides books from a number of different publishers including smaller publishing houses. It focuses on providing high quality products and titles. It is easy to shop Literati’s online catalog, and it has an equivalent to the EWallet from Scholastic. This means that the title selection will differ from previous years, but I think that the students will greatly benefit from this selection if we encourage them to be open minded and try new things!

As in previous years, our book fair will be cashless. To provide your student with money to spend at the Literati book fair, simply purchase a gift card for a set or custom amount on their website

Book Fair Teacher Wish Bins

Many teachers will have a Teacher Wish Bin at the Book Fair. Parents are invited to purchase a book from the Teacher Wish Bins at the Book Fair. Your child will be given a Special Gift Label to attach to the book when the book is purchased.
